Syria participates in the meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group to discuss the challenges of the global economy

Rabat (ST) – With the participation of Syria, representatives of the countries participating in the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, which were held in Morocco, discussed the challenges that are facing the global economy. They stressed the need to support international efforts to achieve stability and provide the necessary assistance to everyone during disasters.

The activities of the first day included a meeting of deputy ministers of the participating countries and governors of the 24 intergovernmental groups concerned with international monetary affairs and development.

During these activities, the prospects of developing work in the institutions of the IMF and the World Bank Group were presented, especially the need for emerging market economies and developing countries to have a greater role in the governance of international financial institutions and decision-making.

This role can be active through increasing the representation of these countries on the Board of Executive Directors and thus a greater possibility of participating in the decision-making process within financial institutions.

This annual meeting began in the city of Marrakesh, Morocco, on the ninth of this month and will continue until the 15th, with the participation of  most of the member states of these two international institutions.

The Syrian delegation includes the Minister of Finance and Syria’s Governor of the IMF, Dr. Kenan Yaghi, and Assistant Minister of Finance, Dr. Riad Abdel Raouf.
