Afghan officials announced today that the death toll from the two earthquakes that struck western Afghanistan and neighboring provinces last Saturday has raised to 2,445 people.
Xinhua News Agency quoted the director of the Disaster Management Office in Herat Province, Mawlawi Ashari, as saying: “The area most affected by the two earthquakes is the rural area in Herat, where 13 villages were completely destroyed,” explaining that rescue efforts and recovery of victims are still continuing.
Two earthquakes, one with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale, struck western Afghanistan last Saturday, causing human losses and significant material damage.
