Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and India agree to develop “North-South” shipping corridor
The Kazakh government announced that Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran and India have agreed on a draft document on the development of the “North-South” shipping corridor linking Russia to the Indian Ocean.
Sputnik quoted the government as saying in a statement: “The document includes improving the infrastructure and facilities on the route, removing administrative barriers, and creating favorable conditions for transport companies,” noting that developing the corridor by 2027 will increase production capacity to 10 million tons annually.
It is noteworthy that the “North-South” shipping corridor is a multimodal route from St. Petersburg, Russia to the port of Mumbai in India, with a length of 7.2 thousand kilometers and passes through Iran.
The “North-South” corridor includes three international shipping routes, across the Caspian Sea using railways and ports, and two land routes, western and eastern.
