European Commission: Ukraine has drained the European Union budget

The European Commission announced that the crisis in Ukraine and the financial and military aid provided to it have drained the European Union budget.

The Commission indicated in its account on the “X” platform that the conflict in Ukraine and inflation caused the depletion of the European Union’s long-term budget reserves.

The Commission added that the European Union needs more funds to be able to provide the necessary responses to crises.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had previously stated that the Commission reviewed the European Union budget for the period from 2024 to 2027.

He called on countries to increase it by 66 billion euros to help Ukraine, implement immigration and refugee assistance programs, and enhance the competitiveness of the European Union.

In turn, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban described this proposal as trivial because it is not known where the money granted to Ukraine went before that.
