Prime Minister puts first group in thermal station in Aleppo into service after its restoration

Aleppo – Prime Minister Hussein Arnous on Thursday put the first group in the thermal station in Aleppo into service with a production capacity of 202 megawatts after its restoration. The group is to be added to the fifth group previously placed in service, with a total of 404 megawatts for both.

The Prime Minister said in a statement to reporters after the inauguration that after the visit of President Bashar Al-Assad to Aleppo and his participation in the launch of the work of the fifth group at the station, efforts were mobilized to equip the first group and put it into service, with a design capacity of 202 megawatts, according to the contract that was signed with the Iranian “Mabanna” company. He pointed out that work is underway to restore the entire station as soon as possible.

Regarding cooperation with the Iranian side to restore the power plant, Arnous clarified that this project is part of the cooperation between the two countries, which includes all fields, especially since Iranian companies have the experience and will to help the Syrian people. He pointed out that relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are strategic and fulfill the aspirations of the two countries’ people.

He stressed that workers in all fields are allies of the Syrian Arab Army, congratulating the Syrian people on the 50th anniversary of the October War of Liberation, which established the first victory in the modern history of the Arabs.

In turn, Director of the General Electricity Generation Corporation, Engineer Omar Barijan, stated that the first group that was put into service today was sabotaged by armed terrorist groups, indicating that it is part of Aleppo Thermal Station, which is one of the largest electric power generation stations with a capacity of 1000 megawatts.

Berijan stated that the first group will supply the Syrian network with electrical energy with a capacity of 202 megawatts, which is the agreed-upon contract capacity, pointing out that last year the fifth group was put into service, with the efforts of specialists and national expertise.

For his part, Director of the General Company for Electric Power Generation in Aleppo, Mustafa Shantout, praised the efforts of the company’s engineers and technicians to rebuild what was destroyed by terrorism and improve the electricity situation in various regions.

Arnous also put Tal Balat silo in Aleppo countryside, which is affiliated to the General Grain Organization, into service with a full production capacity of 100,000 tons of grain after its restoration, as it was operating at only 50 percent capacity.

The premier also opened 10 residential buildings for Aleppo City Council, worth more than 12 billion Syrian pounds, to be put into service in the Masaken Hanano neighborhood, containing 224 apartments.

Arnous also inaugurated the heritage building of the 4-star Al-Tahan Hotel in the vicinity of the Aleppo Citadel which provides around 200 job opportunities.
