Damascus, (ST) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in statement on Tuesday that Syria strongly condemns the terrorist attack that targeted the Cuban Embassy in the United States by throwing two molotov cocktails at the embassy’s headquarters several days ago.“This is the second time that the Cuban embassy in Washington has been subjected to a terrorist attack, as this was preceded by an attack on the embassy with an automatic rifle on April 30, 2020”, it added.
The Foreign Ministry added that targeting diplomatic missions is an illegal act and is considered a serious violation of international conventions, customs and laws.
The ministry went on to say: It is the duty of the American government to ensure its protection and hold accountable those responsible for acts of violence against it when attacking it, in accordance with Article (22) of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
The Foreign Ministry continued: At a time when Syria once again expresses its support for the Republic of Cuba in the face of all challenges, especially our condemnation of the sanctions and the inhuman American financial, commercial and economic blockade imposed by the United States of America on Cuba, rejecting the policy of hegemony, colonialism, exploitation and interference in the internal affairs of independent countries.
Syria demanded that Cuba be removed from the false American list of states sponsoring terrorism, and called for the abolition of this shameful list in which America practices open blackmail against countries, which pride themselves on their sovereignty, and justifies its interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
