The Palestinians in the territories occupied in 1948 commemorated the 23rd anniversary of the uprising of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa, through a massive demonstration organized in the city of Sikhnin with the participation of thousands of people from Palestinian cities and villages.
Demonstrators toured the streets of the city, during which they raised Palestinian flags and pictures of the 13 martyrs who were martyred 23 years ago. The demonstrators also chanted slogans denouncing the Israeli occupation and its crimes against the Palestinians, stressing their resistance to the Zionist plans that aim to uproot them from their land and homeland.
The demonstrators stressed that the occupation practices that sparked the “Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa uprising” have become more severe, especially in recent years, in light of the occupation authorities’ insistence on escalating settlement operations and intensifying the targeting of occupied Jerusalem, especially Islamic and Christian holy sites, in addition to their attempts to uproot locals of Jerusalem from their historical neighborhoods. They underlined the necessity of continuing the struggle and steadfastness to thwart the occupation’s plans to Judaize Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa, which is an Islamic mosque in its entire area.
The families of the martyrs and a number of Palestinian national activists placed wreaths on the shrines of the martyrs in a number of Palestinian cities and villages.
In a statement to SANA correspondent, the freed Palestinian prisoner, Muhammad Kanaana, noted that today what is required of the Palestinian people is increased solidarity to confront the fascist Zionist attack in the Negev, and the daily displacement operations in the Galilee. He stressed the Palestinians’ rootedness in their homeland, their adherence to its soil, and their continued struggle in confronting the occupation until all its colonial plans are thwarted.
The mother of the martyr Ahmed Abu Saleh from the city of Sikhnin said that Ahmed and 12 Palestinians from the territories occupied in 1948 martyred in defense of their families, people, and the cause of their homeland. SO, the Palestinians will not forget those martyrs, whose blood will be a beacon for generations in confronting the occupation’s attempts to uproot them from it and Judaize it.
