The opening of the Monastery of Saint Mar Antonius the Great in Sadad in Homs countryside

Patriarch Mar Ignatius Aphrem II Karim of Antioch and all East, the Supreme President of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the world, opened the Monastery of Saint Anthony the Great in Sadad town, eastern Homs countryside.

Patriarch Aphrem stressed that Syria presents an example to follow by the whole world in national unity and in the will for reconstruction with the efforts of its people, demanding the immediate lifting of the unjust sanctions imposed on Syria.

Patriarch Aphrem appreciated the sacrifices offered by the Syrians in general and the locals in Sadad town in particular when the town was invaded by terrorism, considering that loyalty to the blood of the martyrs is to fortify the country against the inside and outside enemies.

In turn, Bishop Martimo Thousa Matta Al -Khoury of Homs, Hama and Tartous, and its dependencies for the Syriac Orthodox, noted the coincidence of the opening of the monastery with the Prophet Mohammad’s Birthday and hailing the cohesion  between Syria’s sons, both Muslims and Christians for thousands of years.

The engineer in the Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox in Homs Naim Al-Khoury indicated that the monastery is five kilometers away from the town of Sadad. The two -story monastery’s area is 1200 square meters and it includes a church, food room, bedrooms and sitting rooms.

The opening was attended by the bishops, members of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Syriac, church heads and representatives in Homs, a group of priests, and a large number of residents in the town.
