Russia, US to Hold Talks on Iran’s Participation in Geneva II Conference: UN

NEW YORK- The forthcoming talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the US State Secretary John Kerry will hopefully resulted in a decision on Iran’s participation in the International Conference on Syria, the United Nations has said.

 The Russia Today Website quoted Martin Nesirky, Spokesman of the UN Secretary General, as saying on Saturday that “Russia and the United States will hold talks on this issue as they are the two countries which proposed the initiative to hold the conference and now we are waiting for the outcomes of the talks.”

The spokesman didn’t mention when the forthcoming meeting between the two ministers will be held.

On December 23rd last year, the UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-moon reiterated the importance of Iran’s participation in Geneva II Conference on Syria due to the positive effect of this participation on the results of the conference.
