Syrian boxer Muhammad Melis withdraws from competition with his Bahraini counterpart in the Asian Games in China due to the presence of  Israeli referee

Syrian national boxing team player Muhammad Melis withdrew from competition with the Bahraini boxer Danis Lapetbov in the 19th Asian Games held in China, refusing to go up to the ring due to the presence of a referee from the Zionist entity to arbitrate the fight.

The coach Mohamed Ghosoun submitted an objection to the referees’ committee, but the objection received no response which prompted the Syrian boxer not to climb into the ring, and thus, the referee declared the Bahraini boxer as the winner.

Member of the International Referees Committee of the International Boxing Federation Kamel Shabib explained that the International Federation always emphasizes that in any international tournament, the judge and the ring referee should not be from a hostile country.

Our boxer, Ahmed Ghosun, will begin his competition in the tournament by facing the South Korean boxer Kim Jingya next Friday.

Syria participates in the tournament in equestrian, boxing, wrestling and athletics competitions. The country is represented in the athletics competitions by Majd al-Din Ghazal in the high jumping, in wrestling by Omar Sarem and Yanal Barazi, and in equestrian events by Ahmed Hamsho and Amr Hamsho.
