Damascus University and the Russian government University Kuban today signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance and develop scientific, academic and research cooperation and to encourage student and academic exchange, on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
The memorandum was signed by Dr. Muhammad Osama Al -Jabban, Rector of Damascus University, and Dr. Mikhail Astabov, Rector of the Russian University of Koban.
According to the memorandum, the two sides will cooperate through exchanging researchers and students for teaching purposes, exchanging research works, curricula, developing programs, organizing joint research and educational programs, holding seminars, carrying out research projects and holding conferences and other joint scientific events.
The memorandum stipulates the cooperation of the two universities in the field of developing joint research programs, exchanging publications, scientific subjects, educational papers and research information.
In statements to the media after the signing ceremony, Al -Jabban pointed out that the memo opens new horizons for cooperation with the University of Kuban, especially since the latter includes in its teaching staff and among its students a number of Syrian academics and students, considering that the memo is an opportunity to increase and enhance close cooperation between the two countries and the two friendly peoples.
In turn, Astabov stated that the two universities are ancient institutions and have many foundations for joint and strategic cooperation.
He pointed to the existence of an endeavor to open a center for teaching Russian language at the University of Damascus, and to provide educational assistance to its faculties.
After the signing of the memorandum, the Russian delegation visited the Faculty of Letters at the University of Damascus, and their tour included the student service center, the Blind Education Center, the Russian Language Department and some teaching halls.
