The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian reform announced that the harvest of cotton crop has begun in all governorates that produced cotton for this season, noting that initial indicators of the crop herald good returns.
Director of the cotton office in the Ministry of Agriculture, Eng. Ahmad Al Ali, stated that the ministry provided all the necessary facilitations through the concerned authorities, in terms of securing cotton seedlings, certificates of origins, easy passage to the ginneries to deliver the crop, identifying the need of ginneries and receiving centers spread in all governorates, stressing the readiness of the ginneries throughout the harvest season to receive the cotton crop from farmers.
Al-Ali stressed the government’s interest and support for this strategic crop through the price approved by the economic committee at 10,000 Syrian pounds per kilogram, which constitutes an incentive for farmers to deliver the entire crop to the gins and increase the cultivated areas in the next season.
Al-Ali pointed out that there are 7 ginneries that receive the crop in the producing governorates which are Tishreen gins in Aleppo, Al Fedaa , Al Asi, Al Salamiyah, Mahardah in Hama , the old ginner in Deir Ezzor, Al Walid in Homs, and the Sabkha receiving center in Raqqa.
It is noteworthy that the area planted with cotton crop this season amounted to 35, 893 hectares , of which 7175 hectares are in safe areas.
