Armenia calls for sending a UN mission to the Karabakh region

Armenia called for sending a United Nations mission to the disputed  Karabakh   region with Azerbaijan, to monitor the field situation there.

“The international community should do its best to deploy a joint mission of the United Nations agencies immediately in Nagorno-Karabakh to monitor the humanitarian and security situation on the ground,” The media quoted Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan as saying yesterday in his speech to the United Nations.

For his part, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister JionPermov said: The majority of the Armenians in theNagorno-Karabak region will be treated as equal citizens.

“I want to confirm again that Azerbaijan is determined to reintegrate the Armenian population into the Nagorno-Karabakh region in Azerbaijan as equal citizens,”Permov added in his speech to the United Nations. Permov explained that there is a historical opportunity for Azerbaijan and Armenia to establish good neighborhood relations and coexist along with peace.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed during a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev last week the importance of guaranteeing the rights and security of the Armenian population in Nogorno-Karabakwhen discussing the following steps to enhance the stability of the situation and overcome humanitarian problems in the region.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that theRussian peacekeeping  forces in Nagorno-Karabakh will help build a peaceful life there.
