New York (ST): The head of the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that the devastating impact of unilateral coercive measures on the development process in the targeted countries must be recognized.
Sabbagh said in his speech on the sidelines of the work of the United Nations General Assembly during the ministerial preparatory meeting for the Future Summit scheduled to be held next year 2024: “The era of the future must enhance the implementation of the 2030 agenda, not replace it, and based on that, Syria confirms that it does not accept less than this agenda achieved, including recognition of the devastating impact of unilateral coercive measures on the development process in the targeted countries.”
In turn, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, explained that the Future Summit constitutes an opportunity to rebuild confidence and accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals. He welcomed reaching an international consensus to define the scope of the Future Summit to include five main pillars: sustainable development, financing development, international peace and security, science, technology, innovation, digital cooperation, youth, and future generations and transforming global governance.
