President Al-Assad: takfiri Wahabi ideology tarnish Islam’s true image

DAMASCUS, (ST) – “undoubtedly, extremism and the takfiri  Wahabi ideology tarnish the image of the true Islam, “underscored President Bashar Al-Assad .

President Al-Assad’s remark was made during a meeting H.E President Al-Assad held on Monday with the Lebanese Muslim Scholars Rally delegation led  by the Rally’s managing board chairman, sheikh Hassan Abdullah.

Latest developments in the region particularly in Syria and Lebanon, threats of takfiri ideology which targets the history, future and coexistence of the region’s people were touched upon the meeting.

“scholars in general and scholars of the Levant in particular have a crucial role confronting the Wahabi ideology which is alien to our societies. Scholars have also a critical role as regards  unveiling the ugly face of those who embrace this ideology rather than their supporters and promoting the correct and moderate Islam ,”underlined President Al-Assad.

Members of the delegation, for their part,  asserted  that what is happening in the region is but a conflict  between the path of moderation and mediation on one side and takfiri, barbaric and exclusion ideologies on the other side.

The delegation voiced support for Syria in its battle against terrorism and extremism, affirming their confidence in the Syrians’ ability to stand fast and emerge victorious.
