The National Hearing Survey Committee discusses expanding the early intervention program for hearing loss

During the meeting held in the building of the Ministry of Health today, a number of ideas and proposals were put forward that contribute to developing the program and ensuring that children who did not pass the auditory screening test do not drop out, in addition to a mechanism to intervene in the event of failure and follow up on the cases with great precision.Committee members stressed the need for parents to sign a register or form to ensure that they take their children to the detection centers on time, to benefit from the program and to intensify training courses to include doctors in the otology, gynecology and pediatric specialties, in addition to midwives.

During the meeting, the Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabbash, stressed the importance of following up on the program’s progress with regard to the examination and intervention mechanism, in addition to continuous scientific and practical training, and informing families of the plan and stages of intervention and treatment by specialists.

The National Hearing Survey Committee includes representatives of the Ministries of Health, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Defense, Interior, the Syrian Organization for Persons with Disabilities, Aamal, and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

The National Program for Early Detection and Intervention of Hearing Loss in Newborns was launched on the 12th of last month, under the patronage and presence of First Lady Asma Al-Assad, and it targets all newborns during their first month of life in various governorates.
