Symposium on Sabra and Shatila massacres in Abu Rummaneh Cultural Center

The Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh, Damascus, hosted a symposium entitled “Sabra and Shatila…Anniversary and Heroism”, in which a number of writers and journalists participated. The symposium focused on the brutal massacre committed by the Zionist entity in Sabra and Shatila in 1982.

Journalist Hadba Al-Ali shed light on many of the stories of the victims of the massacre committed by the Zionists.

Journalist Naeem Ibrahim spoke about the memoirs of activist Nidal Hamsho, which exposed the role of the leaders of the Zionist entity, the occupation army, and the agent gangs in the massacres, especially Sabra and Shatila, and their keenness to kill everyone in Sabra and Shatila and completely exterminate families, in addition to kidnapping Palestinians whose fate is still unknown.

During the symposium, journalist and researcher Walid Abdel Rahim presented two short films about Sabra and Shatila massacres in a systematic and documented manner, and the killing, torture, displacement and kidnapping that occurred during these massacres.

The writer Hassan Hamid quoted the words and writings of some of those who witnessed the massacre.

In turn, member of the Board of Trustees of the Dar Al-Thaqafa Academy, critic Ahmed Hilal, who moderated the symposium, said: Since the Zionist occupation set foot on the land of Palestine; it has sought to erase its people and undermine its existence and history. There is no clearer evidence in this context than the series of crimes and massacres the occupation committed, including Sabra and Shatila massacre.

Hilal pointed out that remembering this moment in contemporary Palestinian and Arab history has many meanings, including exposing the crimes of this entity, and highlighting  the memory that does not forget and does not forgive the atrocities and woes committed by the perpetrators.
