Al-Mikdad: Syria welcomes the return of all refugees

Damascus, (ST) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad affirmed that Syria welcomes the return of all Syrian refugees to their homeland and provides the necessary facilities for that. He indicated that what hinders this return are the consequences resulting from the continued Turkish and American occupation of parts of Syria.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, a copy of which was received by SANA, that Al-Mikdad stressed during a phone call he received from the Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib, the depth of the fraternal and historical relations between the two countries, pointing out that the harm that affects Lebanon affects Syria.

During the call, the two sides focused on the issue of the return of Syrian refugees and on putting an end to everything that hinders this return.

Al-Mikdad reiterated that Syria welcomes the return of all Syrian refugees to their homeland and offers everything it can to facilitate their return. He stressed that what is hindering their return are the consequences resulting from the continued Turkish and American occupation of parts in the northwest and northeast of Syria and the plundering of the country’s national wealth, in addition to the disastrous effects of the continued imposition of illegal economic measures on Syria by Western countries hostile to Lebanon and Syria.

In turn, Bou Habib indicated that he will head an official Lebanese delegation that will visit Syria within shortly to discuss the issue of the Syrian refugees. He expressed his country’s government’s keenness to coordinate and cooperate with Syria in this context.
