Cuban Ambassador in Damascus: Havana Summit serves peoples’ interests and world peace

Damascus (ST): The Cuban Ambassador to Damascus, Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodriguez, expressed his confidence that the summit of heads of state and government of the Group of 77 and China scheduled to be held in Havana will be successful for the benefit of the development of peoples and world peace.

In a press briefing about the summit scheduled to be held on the 15th and 16th of this month under the title Current Challenges to Development and the Role of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ambassador Rodriguez thanked the Syrian side participating in the summit for its support for the just causes of the countries of the South, including their right to access modern technologies and sciences and employ it to achieve sustainable development goals.

The ambassador pointed out that the summit is a very important opportunity for the countries of the South to carry out real and tangible actions before international organizations and bodies, strengthen their unity and take collective and practical measures to effectively confront contemporary challenges, stressing that the success of this summit is a success for Cuba, Syria and all countries of the developing world.

Rodriguez affirmed his country’s readiness to help Syria and stand by its side because the two countries are resisting and struggling together for victory and preserving their sovereignty and independence, emphasizing that sanctions and blockades will not be able to affect bilateral relations.

The ambassador stated that the Havana Summit aims to enhance the aspirations of the 2030 Agenda, through concrete measures and strengthening international solidarity and cooperation, and for industrialized countries to bear their responsibilities to support development efforts through cooperation between North and South, in addition to universal access to education and health and support for the multilateral trading system based on transparency and non-discrimination.
