Awqaf Minister: Syria has given great example in confronting all forms of extremism

Cairo – Syria’s Minister of Awqaf (Islamic Endowments) Mohammad Abdul Sattar Al-Sayyed has stressed that Syria, through all its institutions, has given a great example in confronting all forms of extremism and fanaticism, pointing out that Syria’s tragic experience due to terrorism, extremism and killing acts began as a result of influencing the youth through cyberspace.

He made the remarks during the 34th International Conference on Cyberspace and Modern Means of Religious Discourse which kicked off today in Egyptian capital, Cairo in the presence of officials, intellectuals and men of religion representing the Islamic world. The conference is held by the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA).

Al-Sayyed affirmed the need to benefit from modern technologies in creativity, noting that religious institutions must use the cyberspace to prevent extremist groups from dominating social media platforms and using them to brainwash the youth.

He pointed out that the current stage is based on th use of artificial intelligence, the Internet and social media, so, we should address people through these methods in a rational, objective, and moderate religious discourse that unites and does not divide, and builds and does not destroy.

Ministers of endowments and heads of religious institutions in Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Bahrain, Palestine, Mauritania, Russia, Nigeria, Albania and other Arab and Islamic countries are taking part in the 2-day conference.
