Six years after the lifting of the siege, Deir Ezzour continues its recovery and reconstruction

Ezzour (ST): The people of Deir Ezzour celebrate six-year anniversary of breaking the siege on the city

Six years after breaking the siege, Deir Ezzour is witnessing the return of most services and the reactivation of work in government institutions and departments, which has contributed to the return of more than a million citizens to their cities and villages from which they were displaced as a result of terrorism.

Deputy Head of the Executive Office, Hamoud Al-Sheikh, confirmed in a statement to  news reporter that Deir Ezzour Governorate was exposed during the years of the siege to major sabotage at the hands of brutal terrorism, but that did not stand in the way of its people and service cadres working to reconstruct it and meet the needs resulting from this sabotage. As a result of the intensive and accelerated return of the people to the liberated areas, Deir Ezzour received great government support accompanied by continuous work from the service team in the governorate, all of which was reflected positively on the service, development and production reality in all the liberated areas.

Since the beginning of the liberation, the governorate has worked to provide basic services to the liberated areas, most notably the removal of rubble, the opening of streets, the rehabilitation of sanitation, water stations, bakeries, and schools, in addition to the rest of the services, such as electricity, communications, solar lighting, activating government departments, and reviving commercial markets.

In turn, the Director of the General Corporation for Drinking Water in Deir Ezzour, Engineer Lawrence Al-Hussein, stated that the Corporation is working to secure pure and potable water for all areas of the governorate liberated from terrorism, through the 73 main and typical water stations. He pointed out that the number of water pumping stations that were installed increased from one station in 2017 to 73 stations at the present time. Maintenance and rehabilitation work was carried out on all network lines connected to these stations, and several projects were implemented to improve the reality of the water system, and 5 stations were operated on solar energy.

The director of the General Electricity Company in Deir Ezzour, Engineer Khaled Al-Fahd, explained that most of the governorate’s area was fed through the rehabilitation and operation of 20 KV stations in the Al-Tala’i 8, Radio, Al-Taym, Al-Mayadeen and Al-Jalaa stations, and 850 transformers with different capacities were installed, and technical workshops rehabilitated the first gas groups.

In the education sector, the Director of Education, Jassim Al-Furaih, stated that this sector witnessed  rapid recovery, and the number of schools opened reached 386 schools, and the number of students reached 170 thousand students, male and female, in parallel with reactivating work in educational complexes and securing all requirements for the educational process, including classroom seats, books, and school supplies.
