New archaeological discoveries unearthed in northeastern China

Beijing (ST): Chinese archaeologists today discovered 10 tombs belonging to eight houses dating back more than two thousand years in Liaoning Province, northeastern China. 

Xinhua Agency reported that the Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology in Liaoning Province carried out these explorations at the Qiuying site in the city of Yingkou. This excavation process, which began last July, also discovered four ash pits, a kiln site, and a well, in addition to more than 100 artifacts. 

The agency noted that the discovered artifacts include pottery shards decorated with dark, polished grid patterns and inscriptions carved from rippled water, showing the unique characteristics of the Yan culture during the Sixteen Kingdoms period, a culture in Liaoning Province, but rarely found in this region.
