Halaqi Meets Media National Council Members on Improving Media Performance to withstand challenges

Damascus,(ST)_ In order to enhance the media in covering current events and overcome obstacles impeding the development of the national media performance, Prime Minister Dr. Wael Halaqi met today with chairman and members of the National Media Council in the presence of Information Minister Omran al-Zou’bi.

Al-Halaqi noted the importance of coordination between the Ministry of Information,the National Media Council and the Journalists Union in, ” the process of an interactive teamwork to mobilize national media energies and addressing ” all misleading media, including websites and social networking, which publish news aimed at sabotaging the Syrian social fabric and insulting national symbols,noting the success of the national media, despite their limited resources in withstanding the multiple global war, that Syria has been experiences since three years..

The prime minister indicated the attempts made by enemies of the homeland to wage a media economic war to undermine the government’s measures and to promote a climate of mistrust between the citizen and the government, after their failed attempts to undermine the national economy and the Syrian pound, pointing out that the fierce media war against Syria aimed to subvert the Syrian social fabric through mercenary sites that are fabricating and broadcasting rumors and false news, a situation which makes it imperative for media authorities to fortify the society and address such destructive thoughts.

He stressed national duties of the National Media Council in the design and development of strategic policies for the national media, which enjoys credibility, transparency and supervision of the implementation and monitor of media, improve the performance of the national media institution, mobilizing national media to deal with the Wahhabi and Takfiri cultural, intellectual criminal and destructive invasion and to correct misleading views and ideas spread through websites and social networking sites and misleading media channels.

He stressed the need to hold bi-monthly meetings between the Ministry of Information and the National Media Council and a monthly meeting between the National Council and the general managers and editors in media organizations, headed by the Minister of Information to create added value to the work of the media and draw successful media policies and evaluate the performance of media institutions and overcome obstacles and enrich the national experience of the national media.

The Prime Minister listened to a detailed explanation about the reality of the National Media Council and ways to overcome the obstacles it faces and to strengthen its capacity to perform tasks entrusted to it, and the importance of developing clear and precise national strategies for every media organization, according to the media law.

In a statement to reporters after the meeting, chairman of the National Media Council Muhammad Razzouk said that during the meeting, the participants stressed joint cooperation between the Ministry of Information and the National Media Council to contribute to the implementation of the media law and improving media performance, indicating that regular meetings will be held between the Council and staffs of the ministry and media institutions to exchange views on policies and media performance and follow-up and implementation.
