Minister of Transport: Rebuilding 36 bridges damaged by terrorism

By September 2nd, the Ministry of Transport had completed the maintenance and rebuilding of  most of the affected sites on the roads and bridges destroyed by terrorism in the governorates of Aleppo, Homs, Deir Ezzor and Daraa, with a value of about 325 billion Syrian pounds.

The Minister of Transport, Eng. Zuhair Khuzaim, said that the length of the central road network is about 9052 km, 50 percent of it was badly damaged , of which currently 20 percent of it is unusable .

He added that 85 bridges were destroyed and the value of the damage to the road network, bridges and facilities affiliated with it amounted to 1350 billion Syrian pounds, and it needs  648 billion Syrian pounds to return them to what they were.

He said that the ministry rebuilt the most affected sites on roads and bridges at a value of 325 billion Syrian pounds.

Khuzaim added: The General Company of Roads in the ministry is rebuilding the bridges that were destroyed in the governorates of Aleppo, Homs, Deir Ezzour and Daraa, as part of its action plan and according to the available capabilities and financing.

In turn, Eng. George Al -Bashara, in charge of the General Director of the General Company of Roads explained that the Company is preparing the necessary plans and studies for the central roads, in addition to following up on the ongoing and urgent maintenance work for them.

He added that the Company also secures road safety, monitoring traffic, preventing violations on the roads, and developing the work mechanism, by carrying out scientific research, training and qualifying workers periodically to increase their skills.
