Iran’s Abdollahian visits Syria to hold talks on bilateral ties, regional and international issues

Damascus – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, upon his arrival at Damascus International Airport on Wednesday, said that the goal of his visit to Syria is to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries as well as regional and international issues of common interest.

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad met separately with Minister Abdullahian and the accompanying delegation.

The premier’s meeting with Abdollahian focused on ways to follow up on the implementation of the agreements and understandings reached during the recent visit of the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Syria and his meeting with President Bashar Al-Assad. It also focused on strengthening bilateral relations in various fields for the mutual interest of the two countries.

Joint projects in the domains of finance, banking, energy, oil derivatives, communications, industry and tourism were reviewed, besides ways to strengthen the role of the business sector and  enhance trade exchange to increase growth rates

Arnous explained the difficulties that have faced the Syrian economy due to the unjust siege and the controlling of the Syrian oil, agricultural crops and other resources in the Syrian Al-Jazira region by the occupation and its affiliated militia.

He pointed out that the government’s measures to operate various sectors have contributed to increasing production with the aim of meeting the needs of the Syrian people.

Arnous thanked the Iranian leadership, government and people for the support provided to Syria in various fields.

For his part, Abdollahian affirmdd his country’s keenness to expand areas of cooperation, stressing the need to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy and to use national currencies in commercial transactions.
