The first Syrian-Russian Conference on Psychiatry kicks off in Damascus

This morning, the first Syrian-Russian Conference on Psychiatry kicked off at the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus.

The Syrian-Russian Cooperation Foundation held the conference under the title (Your mental health is a priority).

The two-day conference focuses on depression, the disease of the age, debates between cardiology and psychiatry, the effects of psychiatric medication and the danger of abuse and addiction in young people.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Syrian-Russian Cooperation Foundation, Dr. Fadi Isani, explained in his speech the importance of the conference in shedding light on the role of mental health and its reflection on physical health in a way that gives immunity and strength to the society as a whole.

The head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation, General Rear Admiral Vadim Colette, stressed that the issues raised in the conference have a major role in providing psychological support to the groups affected by the terrorist war on Syria.

 In turn, the Chairman of the Damascus Doctors Syndicate, Imad Saadeh, presented the role of mental health in personal, social and economic development, which is what the conference focuses on as it sheds light on how to deal with the method of diagnosing mental illness.

The representative of the Orthodox Organization in Syria, Lina Nasr, indicated that mental health is an integral part of the general health of the individuals, and helps them make decisions, establish relationships, understand the world around them, and contribute to building the local community in a healthy way.

The conference was attended by the Secretary of the Damascus Branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Hossam Al-Samman, and the Secretary of the Damascus Countryside Branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Radwan Mustafa, a number of members of the Doctors, Dentists and Pharmacists Syndicates, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University, Dr. Raed Abu Harb.
