Moscow: Washington’s desire to dominate the digital space is a new form of colonial practices

Washington, (ST) – The Deputy Head of the Russian delegation to the United Nations, Dmitry Bukin confirmed that the United States’ desire to dominate the digital space and its endeavor to influence the form and content of the agreement on combating cyber crime represents a form of neo-colonial practice.

“RT” website quoted Bukin as saying in a session of the Special Committee for the Development of a Comprehensive United Nations Convention on Combating the Use of Information Technology for Criminal Purposes: The United States and Austria have always prevented the participation of representatives of the Russian Federation in the events of this committee by not issuing entry visas to the head and members of the Russian delegation.

Bukin Pointed out that his country sees this not only as a failure to fulfill the obligations of hosting the headquarters of the United Nations and its sections, but also as a desire to influence politically the course of negotiations regarding the development of the agreement.

Bukin said that Russia supports the development of a comprehensive and wide-ranging treaty to combat cyber crime, which includes confronting terrorism, extremism, Nazism, incitement to armed activity, incitement to suicide, and the illegal distribution of drugs and weapons.

He pointed out that the alternative document presented in the Special Committee by Western countries hides behind slogans about protecting human rights, while it only reflects its interests.
