Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani affirmed that the United States was and still is the main source for the continuous terrorism targeting Syria’s security and national sovereignty.
Kanaani stated that “The presence of the American forces in Syria is illegal, and it is tantamount to occupying the lands of a sovereign state, and therefore this presence must end,” stressing that this American presence has intensified terrorist activities in Syria.
On the issue of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, Kanaani said that these talks took place within the scope of discussing the exchange of prisoners, the release of Iranian detainees from American prisons. He stressed that “there are no plans to hold direct talks between the two sides on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting or anywhere else.”
