He stood out in local and international championships… Omar Abbas is a milestone in the swimming world.

He shined in the water and raised the Syrian flag in the sky, writing his name in gold at local and international tournaments so reserving a prestigious position in the swimming world. He is the brilliant Syrian swimmer, Omar Abbas.

Abbas recently achieved a remarkable Syrian record at the Arab Tournament Forum in Algeria by scoring a gold medal in the 200-meter freestyle, a gold in the 400-meter freestyle, a silver in the 100-meter freestyle, a silver in the 400-meter freestyle relay, and a bronze in the 400-meter medley relay.

He aspires to climb to the world podiums through the world championship and the Olympics.

Regarding his sports career, Abbas, 24, stated to SANA,” I started swimming at an early age, specifically at six and participated in local championships. I was always getting first places. I achieved advanced Syrian records in a number of races until 2015, when I competed internationally, where I won the Asian Championship title in Thailand at the beginning of my participation, and the following year I won the Asian Championship title in Japan.

He added, “In 2017, I won the title of the annual Grand Prix in Ostrava, the title of the Arena Cup in 2018 in the Czech Republic, and the International Championship of Thailand 2019, where I won silver in the 200-meter freestyle, bronze in the 100-meter freestyle, bronze in the 400-meter freestyle, and bronze in the 800-meter freestyle at the Arab Championship in Abu Dhabi 2021.

Abbas went on to say,” This year I won a silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter freestyle races at the Thai International Championships, and achieved the best Syrian records at the World Championships in Japan in the 100-meter freestyle, and at the Arab Games in the 400-meter freestyle.

The ambition in the upcoming achievements awaiting Abbas remains his main concern as he prepares for the Arab Championships in Abu Dhabi next October, awaiting the most prominent event of his career, the Paris 2024 Olympics.
