Abdullahian: The European Union is taking a non-constructive approach by continuing its sanctions policy

Tehran (ST): Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian criticized the non-constructive approach of the European Union by continuing the policy of sanctions against Iran, stressing that the continuation of this situation is not in Europe’s interest.

Abdullahian said in a phone call with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell: “The release of our frozen funds is a positive development, and the return of the parties to the nuclear agreement to their obligations is not far away if there is a serious will,” noting that the interaction between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency is progressing now on track for cooperation.

The Iranian foreign minister expressed his concern about the current crisis in Niger and said: “We are closely following the developments in this country and stress the importance of the rule of law in it and of course avoiding any military intervention, yet we consider that the blockade imposed on Niger exacerbates the problems of its people.”

On the developments in Ukraine, Abdullahian stressed that Iran “does not compliment any party in its foreign policy, and it openly declares that the solution in Ukraine is political, and that the accusations of using Iranian drones to attack Ukrainian targets are absolutely baseless.
