What did a Japanese tourist say about Syria during his visit?

The Japanese orientalist Dr. Hiroyuki Aoyama confirmed that the unilateral economic measures against Syria have increased the difficulties in the lives of the Syrians, who are still smiling and welcoming other peoples with kindness and love.

Dr. Aoyama, the academic coordinator of Arab and Middle Eastern studies at the University of Tokyo for Foreign Studies, pointed to the historical importance of Syria, and its tourism advantages and historical landmarks that testify to the civilization and advancement of this country.

During his visit to Syria with a Japanese tourist group that includes academics from the University of Tokyo, Dr. Aoyama said: “What caught my attention the most is that although life in Syria has become more difficult since the last time I visited the country in 2019, due to unilateral sanctions and the earthquake.”

He expressed his happiness and surprise at visiting the Opera House in Damascus to attend a musical and singing concert, noting the importance of visiting cultural places and learning about the distinctive customs and traditions of the Syrians.

He added that the members of the group are fully aware that the Western media falsifies facts about Syria and there are many exaggerations, pointing out that they have seen several positive things such as people dealing with them with much kindness, love and hospitality, which is one of the most important characteristics of the Syrian people.

During its week-long tour, the group visited a number of monuments and archaeological areas in Damascus and its countryside including Maaloula, Saydnaya, Aleppo and Lattakia.
