Moscow: The West failed to reach an agreement at the NPT Review Conference

On August 12th, Representatives of the Russian delegation announced in the preparatory session of the conference to review the Treaty of the Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in Vienna, that no final formula has been reached due to the policy of Western countries aimed at thwarting it.

The Russian delegation said: “Because of the attempts of Western countries to settle their political issues that are not related to the goals of the non -proliferation of nuclear weapons and due to their bias in some issues related to non -proliferation, it was not possible to reach a consensual final document,”

The Russian delegation pointed out that the three pillars of the treaty to reduce the spread of nuclear weapons, namely nuclear disarmanement and non-proliferation and the peaceful use of atomic energy, were discussed.

The Russian delegation added that the states parties to the treaty will be able to solve at least part of the existing contradictions in order to achieve positive results.

The next conference to review the NPT is scheduled to be held in New York in 2026.
