Speaker of the People Assembly Hamouda Sabbagh today met with the Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Syria Kamal Bouchama.
Sabbagh stressed the importance of developing fraternal relations between the two countries, especially in the field of parliamentary work, in terms of exchanging experiences and visits, coordinating and unifying positions in regional and international forums, and strengthening the role of parliamentary diplomacy in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples. He appreciated Algeria’s honorable and firm stances in support of Syria and its just cause especially the Algerian assistance to those affected by the earthquake that struck a number of Syrian governorates last February.
For his part, Bouchama indicated that the Syrian people will overcome the ordeal they are going through thanks to their steadfastness and adherence to their land and their defense of it, and that all Western plans that aimed at undermining the Syrians’ unity, sovereignty and independent decision will fail.
Ambassador Bouchama called for increasing mutual visits by parliamentary delegations from the two brotherly countries, with the aim of achieving the highest level of joint cooperation.
