Ministry of Culture and Syrian Trust for Development launch a plan to preserve crafting and playing the Oud

In view of the commitments made to the elements of cultural heritage and the development and implementation of plans for their preservation in partnership with the local community and the concerned governmental and societal authorities to improve the manufacture and transmission of cultural elements, the Ministry of Culture and the Syrian Trust for Development launched today, through a specialized workshop, with a plan to preserve the element “making and playing the oud instrument” which is included in the lists of human heritage in UNESCO in 2023, in Khan Asaad Pasha in Old Damascus.

The workshop, which lasts for two consecutive days, aims to activate community dialogue in order to preserve the intangible heritage and develop preliminary features for a plan to preserve the element that was included as a common element with Iran on the UNESCO lists to be discussed, and to discuss the future of safeguarding plans and the possibility of interested Arab and foreign countries joining the common file for the element.

Also this workshop, which was attended by academic bodies from the Higher Institute of Music , Syrian universities, government and private music institutes, oud instrument makers, musicians and composers, cultural and musical associations, students of the young generation, and those interested in heritage, music and the media, seeks to link and network the stakeholders of the oud element in terms of Industry and playing, in addition to defining the roles and responsibilities of each party.
