Damascus (ST): Prime Minister Hussein Arnous on Thuraday met with the Iraqi Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi and the accompanying delegation.
The talks focused on developing cooperation in the fields of land transport, rail linkages, transit, and the exchange of goods in a way that achieves the common interest of the two brotherly peoples and countries, and mechanisms for following up the implementation of the understandings reached to develop bilateral relations in various fields during the recent visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to Syria and his meeting with Mr. President Bashar al-Assad.
Engineer Arnous underlined the importance of investing in geographical proximity and historical relations that bring together the peoples of the two countries to enhance joint cooperation in the transport, energy and trade exchange sectors, and to establish investment partnerships between the business sectors in Syria and Iraq for the benefit of both countries, pointing to the need to develop the work of the Syrian-Iraqi Land Transport Company and strengthen its fleet of cars and trucks and granting it advanced roles in the development of land transport operations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister expressed his thanks and appreciation to the government and people of Iraq for its stance in support of Syria in facing the repercussions of the earthquake and providing assistance to those affected by it.
For his part, the Iraqi Minister of Transport conveyed to Eng. Arnous the greetings of the Iraqi Prime Minister, stressing his country’s readiness to develop cooperation with Syria, especially in the field of land and rail transport, and its investment in the exchange of goods and products between the two countries markets, and the need to improve the situation of border crossings. The Iraqi minister presented his country’s vision for the development road project and its implications and the expected role of Syria in it.
Al-Mikdad, Al-Saadawi discuss strengthening bilateral relations in the field of transport
Faisal Al-Mikdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, discussed with Razzaq Al-Saadawi, the Iraqi Minister of Transport, and the accompanying delegation, ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields, especially in the field of transport of all kinds.
Minister Al-Mikdad underlined the importance of the strategic relations between the two brotherly countries, which were strengthened after the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani to Damascus and his meeting with President Bashar Al-Assad, pointing to the importance of upgrading the efforts made to reach the bilateral relations to the level that the two brotherly peoples aspire to, and to facilitate the movement of people and goods leading to an increase in the volume of intra-trade.
In turn, Minister Al-Saadawi stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between the Syrian and Iraqi sides at various governmental levels, calling for discovering more opportunities for bilateral cooperation to face the challenges that hinder the process of economic development in the two countries.
The Iraqi minister stressed the importance of strengthening land, rail and air transport to meet the needs of citizens in the two brotherly countries.
