The talks between Minister of Transport Zuhair Khuzaym and his Iraqi counterpart Razzaq Al-Saadawi, who is leading a delegation from the ministry on a working visit to Syria, centered on following up on issues of concern to the two countries in the field of land transport and transit, and the project to achieve rail link between Syria and Iraq, all the way to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During the talks that took place in the Ministry’s building in Damascus, Minister Khuzaym indicated the importance of the visit, as it came after the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, to Syria and his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad, and as the visit is being a continuation of the talks during the meeting that was held on the sidelines of the Development Conference in Iraq.
Minister Khuzaym pointed out that the ministry always seeks to enhance the integration of transport patterns with brotherly Iraq, noting that many solutions have been reached to the obstacles that delay the flow of land transport and goods from Syria to Iraq and vice versa.
Khuzaym explained that the railway link project between Syria and Iraq to the Islamic Republic of Iran will be studied, in addition to discussing some projects related to transit transport to the Arabian Gulf and Iran, activating air transport and increasing the number of flights between the two countries, adding: work will be done to strengthen the fleet of the joint Iraqi-Syrian company for land transport with new vehicles.
For his part, the Iraqi Minister of Transport indicated that a number of important issues for the two countries were discussed, foremost of which was the air, land and sea transport, in addition to important projects for partnership and cooperation between the two countries in light of the historical relations between them.
Al-Saadawi pointed out the importance of the geographical location of the two countries, which can be invested in a way that benefits both parties. The issue of rail linkage and transit was also discussed, in addition to discussing the development road project, stressing that the development of the work of the Iraqi-Syrian Land Transport Company will be discussed during the company’s general assembly conference, which will be held tomorrow.
The meeting was attended by Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus, Yassin Sharif Al-Hujaimi, and concerned directors in both ministries.
