The Syrian community in Romania ready to participate in the reconstruction of their homeland

Bucharest, ST) – Dr. Ramez Harba, Vice President of the Syrian Businessmen Association in the World and President of the Diplomatic Chamber for Sustainable Development with Syria affirmed that the Syrian community in Romania has preserved its affiliation and national principles, and has never been hesitant in contributing to national action, indicating that the community is ready to engage in the process of rebuilding their homeland.

Dr. Harba said in an interview with SANA correspondent in Bucharest: The Syrian community represented, until the year 2000, the largest Arab community in Romania, and had an active role in the economy and commercial movement in the country.

Harba added that the Syrian Embassy in Bucharest, in cooperation with the Institute for Economic and Political Studies of the Middle East in Romania, organized an economic conference in December 2018 in order to learn about the reality of the Syrian economy during the terrorist war waged on the country, and about the opportunities of investment and reconstruction, which was a good starting point for the entry of Romanian companies into Syria, but the great Western pressures and unilateral coercive economic measures have inpeded efforts in this regard.

Regarding the measures taken after the catastrophe of the devastating earthquake that hit Syria last February, Harba said that since the first moments of the earthquake, a full workshop was launched by the Syrian embassy to manage and coordinate the issue of in-kind and financial aid, whether by Syrian businessmen and members of the community or Romanian friends who were an example in cooperation.

Harba pointed to the establishment of “the Syrian Businessmen Association in the World” and the “Diplomatic Chamber for Sustainable Development with Syria,” which is affiliated to the Federation of Joint Chambers of Commerce in Romania, and there are efforts to form a “Joint Business Council” with Romania in line with the Romanian laws and regulations in force.

Harba expressed hope to reach important levels of work that would benefit Syria
