UNESCO’s National Committee calls for Activating regional and international participation in education, culture and science-related fields
On July 26th, members of UNESCO’s National Committee held a meeting at the building of the Ministry of Education in Damascus and discussed activating regional and international participation in fields related to education, culture and science and the impact of this participation on the development of community work and improving opportunities for the youth to participate in grants and competitions announced by UNESCO.
The committee, which includes representatives from the relevant ministries and national bodies, stressed the need to continue with exerting efforts to protect and preserve the Syrian human heritage and recover what was stolen of it.
Minister of Education, Chairman of the Committee, Darem Tabaa emphasized in his speech the importance of the Committee’s work and the need to activate regional and international participation in the fields of education, culture and science.
Minister Tabaa drew attention to higher education in accordance with the vision of President Bashar Al-Assad, focusing on participatory work in it and developing it through the national strategy for higher education.
For his part, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, indicated that education does not aim at graduating cadres only, rather, it aims at developing society and serving its members through scientific research.
Minister Ibrahim gave an explanation about the strategic vision of the Council of Higher Education, which was discussed during the recent meeting with President Bashar Al-Assad, most notably university admission, educational policies, the future vision of graduates, their distribution, and the need of the labor market.
He pointed to the importance of partnership with UNESCO offices at the regional and international levels.
The Secretary of the National Committee for UNESCO Nidal Hassan gave a presentation on what was implemented of last year’s plan, as well as the activities and events that were held to implement this plan.
The members of the committee, who represent the relevant ministries and national bodies, explained the areas of collaborative work with UNESCO.
