People’s Assembly convenes to discuss the economic situation and living conditions in the country

Damascus – The People’s Assembly (PA) convened on Monday to discuss the economic and living conditions in the country as well as the exchange rate of the Syrian Pound.

The session, which was chaired by the PA Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh, was attended by Prime Minister, Hussein Arnous and a number of ministers.

Sabbagh expressed hope that discussions between the MPs and the government will lead to finding appropriate solutions to alleviate, as much as possible, the burdens of the living conditions on the Syrian people.

During the session, it was agreed that a joint committee, comprising a number of People’s Assembly members and the Economic Committee in the Cabinet is formed with the task of preparing an integrated package of practical and effective proposals to improve the economic, living, financial and monetary situation, achieve stability in the exchange rate, and improve the living conditions of the state employees, provided that this committee presents its proposals for discussion and approval.

In response to the proposals and inquiries of the PA members, Prime Minister Hussein Arous said that the government has been working for some time to find logical solutions to improve the living conditions by increasing salaries and securing the necessary sums for that, stressing that the state will not give up support system, especially in the health and education sectors.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the aim of all the decisions of the PA and the Economic Committee is to serve the citizens, indicating that many meetings have been held with the chambers of industry, commerce and agriculture to discuss everything related to the import financing platform, and financing from self-sources has recently been allowed through the decision of the Central Bank of Syria related to this matter, with an emphasis on accelerating the pace of the production process.

He pointed out that the government procedures and decisions and the facilities provided in various sectors contributed to the increase in the number of facilities in industrial cities, cultivated lands and government irrigation projects.

The Prime Minister stressed the need to chase up speculators and crisis traders and curbing smuggling by all available means, pointing out that the current state production of oil amounts to 18 thousand barrels, and the US occupation and the US-backed militia continue to steal Syrian resources, including oil and agricultural crops.
