Indonesian Woven Textiles Exhibition kicks off at Al-Assad Library in Damascus

On July 23rd, the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, organized an exhibition of Indonesian woven textiles, and a graduation ceremony for students of the Indonesian language course, at Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.

In a speech during the ceremony, Indonesia’s Ambassador in Damascus Wajid Fawzi affirmed his country’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Syria in various fields, especially the cultural ones.

Fawzi pointed out that culture is the best way to strengthen ties between the two countries and peoples.

He indicated that years ago, the embassy launched the annual program for the Bahasa language course to introduce the Indonesian culture to the Syrian people from various aspects.

Fawzi said that the “Tenon” hand-made textile exhibition, which lasts for four days, reflects the true picture of the history, culture and civilization of his country.

Fawzi announced a competition for Syrian youth to write about the friendship between the two countries, stressing his country’s keenness to know how Syrians see Indonesia.

Minister of Culture Lubana Mshaweh explained in her speech that the launch of these cultural activities reflects the depth of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

She pointed out that Syria and Indonesia have many common elements, and they have an honorable history of joint struggle in the Non-Aligned Movement since the convening of its first summit for the sake of national independence, sovereignty and combating racism, occupation and colonialism in all its forms.

In turn, the Syrian Minister of Education Darem Tabaa explained in a press statement that learning the Indonesian language opens horizons in the areas of exchanging experiences and cultural and economic exchange between the two countries.

The graduation ceremony included the screening of a film about the students of the course and the distribution of certificates to them, while a number of participating students expressed their happiness at the opportunity to learn about the ancient Indonesian civilization and culture.

A number of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Damascus attended the opening of the exhibition.
