Lavrov urges UN chief to boost efforts to make Geneva II possible

MOSCOW_ Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to make greater efforts for the international peace conference on Syria, Geneva II, to take place as scheduled, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after their telephone conversation on Thursday,according to ITAR TASS.

 “Lavrov called for taking maximum efforts for the international conference on Syria to take place as scheduled – January 22, 2014,” the ministry said.

Lavrov and Ban Ki-moon shared an opinion that “to make the conference on Syria effective it is necessary to ensure representative composition of the delegation of the Syrian “opposition” and of external participants,” the ministry said.
