Ghassan Kanafani was a prominent Palestinian author and a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine who was assassinated by Mossad.
Kanafani always had the mission to wake the Palestinians up to their real goal, which is gaining their rights and their land back from the Israeli occupation. He wrote many works to activate that patriotic feeling inside the Palestinian people, one among many titled was “Men under the Sun”. This particular story had a deep wisdom behind it.
And that’s why within the activities of Ghassan Kanafani’s cultural days organized by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the House of Culture Academy, the movie “The Deceived “was shown at Layalina Hall in the Al-Raml Al-Janoubi neighborhood on Sunday.
But what’s the story behind this movie adaption?!
The “Men under the Sun” is the story of three Palestinians from different age group, who decided to escape their reality in Palestine. During their journey of escape they encounter many events like getting deceived repeatedly by smugglers who rob them of their money and leave them in the desert until they meet a tanker driver who works on the border to transport them inside the tank and they die from the heat inside of this tank!
Ghassan Kanafani let out a loud cry through this novel, in which he says: “Why didn’t you knock on the walls of the tank?” in which he indicates the necessity of resistance.
Representative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Lattakia RabahTabeel stated in a statement to SANA News Agency reporter, that the aim of the event is to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the martyrdom of the revolutionary writer, and member of the political bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and editor-in-chief of Al-Hadaf magazine, Ghassan Kanafani, who was martyred in 1972 at the age of 36 during which he presented many Literary and intellectual works and had a major role in the spread of Palestinian literature.
Muhammad Al-Hussein, media official of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, indicated that the idea of the film is to reject the principle of individual salvation and that there is no salvation without collective work.
Finally, Palestinian critic Ahmed Hilal explained that the screening of this film came to commemorate Ghassan Kanafani and Palestinian cultural icons. The event has greater importance as it is held on the land of Syria, which has resisted the invaders, confronted the terrorists, and withstood it all, so that it can be a sign of victory for Syria and Palestine in one cause.
