China stresses the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

New York, (ST) – China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Zhang Jun stressed the necessity of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in any discussion of the issue of entering humanitarian aid into it.

Xinhua quoted Zhang as saying during a meeting of the UN Security Council: China’s position on the humanitarian issue in Syria is consistent and clear, and we have always emphasized that humanitarian assistance to Syria should be provided in a way that respects its sovereignty.

Zhang called for facing the negative effects of unilateral sanctions on sending humanitarian aid, abandoning double standards and politicizing humanitarian issues.

Zhang also called for continuing to consult and seek the greatest common factor that can accommodate each other’s concerns.
