Syrian-Omani Businessmen and Investors Forum kicks off in Muscat

Muscat, (ST) – The Syrian-Omani Businessmen and Investors Forum kicked off in Muscat on Tuesday under the slogan “The Development of Syrian-Omani Economic Cooperation” with the participation of a Syrian delegation led by the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil.

Al-Khalil said: I hope that the Syrian-Omani Businessmen Forum will constitute a new stage in terms of launching commercial and investment relations that carry promising and abundant opportunities and capabilities.

He indicated that Syria has been witnessing real work aimed at preparing the necessary ground for investment.

“One of Syria’s most important national priorities after the war, within its future vision for the year 2030, is to reach a developed economy that supports comprehensive and sustainable development”, Al-Khalil added.

Minister, Al-Khalil expressed in his speech his hope that this forum would constitute a new stage in terms of launching commercial and investment relations that bear promising and abundant opportunities and capabilities. He stressed that Syria has witnessed and is still witnessing real work aimed at preparing the necessary ground for investment.

Al-Khalil indicated that Investment Law No. 18 of 2021 provided for tax, customs, technical and procedural incentive benefits, calling for the establishment of a permanent market for Syrian products in the Sultanate of Oman aimed at introducing Syrian products, in addition to the possibility of this market becoming a center for exporting Syrian products inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

The activities of the forum are held in the presence of the Ministers of Economy of the two countries and with the participation of more than 60 businessmen from Syria and more than 100 Omani investors, in order to explore available opportunities and prospects for economic cooperation between the two countries.

In his opening speech, Omani Minister of Economy Saeed bin Muhammad Al-Saqri welcomed the Syrian delegation. He expressed his hopes that the forum would contribute to the transition to a more advanced stage in terms of economic relations between the two countries.

In his turn, the Syrian Ambassador to Muscat, Dr. Idris Mayya confirmed that Syria is working hard to boost its economic relations with the Sultanate of Oman to the level of distinguished political relations. He stressed his confidence that the forum will produce practical results that benefit the two brotherly countries.

The forum includes bilateral sessions and discussions on ways to develop economic and trade relations between Damascus and Muscat.
