“Damascene Moon” film… A tribute to Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani on his 100th birthday

Damascus (ST) – The technical operations of the documentary film entitled “Damascus Moon” (Kamar Dimashq), which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani, have recently been completed, after it was filmed in the poet’s house in Old Damascus.

The film, which was written and directed by Nidal Koshaha and produced by Al-Ghanim Film Production Company, presents a number of testimonies that talk about the distinguished contributions that the poet had achieved during his creative career.

Koshaha indicated that the critics classify Qabbani as the most important Arab poet of the 20th century because of his great presence among people, indicating that this film was an old obsession that turned into reality through partnership between him and the producing company. The film aims at presenting Nizar Qabbani’s status in literature and contemporary history of Damascus and Syria, and in Arabic poetry and literature as a whole.

The tribute film includes three main axes, the first of which highlights the poet’s literary criticism, the second highlights Qabbani’s relationship with plastic art, and last axis has to do with poet’s relationship with Arabic singing.

Musical historian Ahmed Boubes talked about the poems composed from Qabbani’s poetry throughout his rich creative career that inspired great Arab composers and singers, such as Umm Kulthum, Abdel Halim Hafez, Kazem El Saher and many others, to deal with him.
