Minister of Agriculture highlights cooperation to face impact of climate change and achieve food security

Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Qatana, stressed the importance of cooperation between countries, to face the impact of climate change and achieve food and water security, underlining the need to enhance intra-country trade and implement regional programs and projects.

In a speech before the General Conference of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in its 43rd session in Rome, Minister Qatana highlighted the importance of holding the conference at this stage, to confront the impact of climate changes and achieve food and water security. He underlined the need for cooperation to reach production, environment, nutrition and a better life for the population,  raise the efficiency of using natural resources, reduce negative impacts on biodiversity, and support the income of small producers.

The work of the conference, which started on Saturday in the Italian capital, Rome, will continue until the 7th of this month. The conference will review the organization’s reports related to water management, the state of agro-food, the medium-term plan for the period 2022-2025, the program of work and budget for the period 2024-2025, regional reports and others.

The delegation representing Syria includes the Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Fayez Al-Miqdad, the Director of the National Center for Agricultural Policies, Engineer Raed Hamza, and the Syrian Ambassador to the FAO, Ayman Raad.
