Eastern and Western music played in a concert in Aleppo marking World Music Day

The Theater of the National Library in Aleppo hosted a concert under the title (Musical Pulse) to celebrate the International Music Day, which was held by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Directorate of Theaters and Music and the Aleppo National Theatre. The concert included a collection of famous Arabic and Western musical and lyrical pieces.

The ceremony began with a classical musical piece that brought together some stringed instruments, followed by Western music and singing, some of Rahbani’s works, and various songs.

The head of the National Theater Department in Aleppo Rana Malki, explained in a statement to SANA News Agency reporter, that the celebration of World Music Day aims to preserve the Arab music library while at the same time keeping up with Western music.

Today’s concert is varied between classic, contemporary and traditional, to simulate different categories of music lovers and to form a lively musical set.

Also, the head of the Artists Syndicate in Aleppo, Abdul Halim Hariri, pointed to the importance of holding such artistic activities and participating in the World Music Day, especially in the city of Aleppo, which is rich in artistic heritage such as Muwashahat and Qudud genres of music. He also stressed the importance of integrating these musical activities with Western music.

Maestro Shadi Najjar stated that the concert was divided into three sections, the first is romantic for the Baroque era (classical), the second is linking oriental music with western harmony, the section he himself plays, and the third section is traditional oriental music.

Finally, among the members of the band, the violinist David Malkonian indicated that he participates in the classical section with the string quartet, two violins, yola and cello from the compositions of Handel in the Baroque era, and Mozart, highlighting that this diversity in music transports the listener to a beautiful world of imagination.
