Al-Mikdad receives the Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity

Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad received today the Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, Ambassador Mohammadi Ahmed Al-Nai and the accompanying delegation.

Al-Mikdad stressed the importance of the work being carried out by the Council of Arab Economic Unity, and the need to upgrade the efforts exerted to strengthen solidarity among Arab countries to face the current challenges.

He also affirmed the necessity of coordinating all efforts to enhance joint Arab action for the benefit of Arab countries.

The minister pointed out that the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and the European Union on Syria are a flagrant violation of international law and have left, along with the terrorist war, catastrophic effects on Syria and the livelihood of Syrian citizens.

For his part, Al-Nai said that the Council of Arab Economic Unity was keen to be one of the first Arab institutions to visit Syria after the Jeddah summit, stressing that Syria’s effective presence in the Arab League and its specialized organizations and bodies contributes to strengthening joint Arab action. He reiterated the need to strengthen cooperation with the relevant parties in Syria.
