The 20th international meeting on Syria in the Astana formate started on Tuesday in the Kazakh capital.
The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic, led by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Soussan, and the delegations of the guarantor countries of the Astana process (Russia, Iran and Turkey) are participating in this meeting.
The Russian delegation is hled by the Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and African Countries Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, while the Iranian delegation is led by Ali Asghar Khaji, Senior Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Special Political Affairs.
Representatives of the United Nations and Syria’s neighboring countries, namely Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan will take part as observers.
According to the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions will focus on the shifts in the regional positions on Syria, the humanitarian situation in the country, efforts to solve the crisis as well as combating terrorism, Syria’s reconstruction process and means of providing suitable conditions for the return of refugees.
