Chemical Weapons Prohibition Organization Chief Welcomed Syria’s Accession

The Hague,  (ST)_ Director General of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons  Ahmad Ozumajo welcomed Syria’s accession to the Organization, considering that as  another important step on the road to achieving the universality of the Convention.

Ozumajo added during a meeting with Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates  yesterday at the headquarters of the  Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague that  ” the success of Syria and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was the result of constructive cooperation between the Syrian government and the organization,” stressing the desire of the organization to continued cooperation to accomplish the required tasks.

For his part, Dr. Miqdad underlined  the  importance of continued coordination and cooperation between Syria and the organization, stressing that Syria, which joined the convention in a sovereign decision is ready to implement all that is required to do under this accession and will continue cooperation with the organization away from politicization and attempts by some States to carry out  private agendas far from the technical aspect of this process.

Syria ‘s delegation, headed by Dr. Miqdad is taking part in the work of the General Conference of the States,  Parties to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in its eighteenth session, which is expected to finish its work  tomorrow,  Friday.
